Anti-Obama == Spamblog? Well according to Google, it seems.
From Newsbusters: Google Shuts Down Anti-Obama Sites on its Blogger Platform
But in Google's defense, they are a business and they can do what they want. The problem is, however, that too many people, especially younger people, are overdependent on Google for their information. The attitude seems to be that if Google can't find it, it doesn't exist. And, hey, "they only censor in China at the request of the Chinese government, they wouldn't dare filter results right here in the good ol' USA..."
Riiiiiiight.
Occam's razor suggests another answer.
My own hypothesis was that, since spam blogs tend to generate a lot of text with unrelated words to get many hits, the anti-Obama blogs were targeted because they tied together unrelated terms like 'Barack Obama' and 'terrorist fist jab' and 'Saddam Hussein', thus resembling nonsensical Markov spamming. But the idea in that article there seems to make more sense.
Besides, if it were true that Google shut down anti-Obama blogs on purpose, then it would simply mean that the market has determined that Obama is the best candidate for president in 2008. No problem either way.
In any case, Google hasn't shut down any blogs that write about math, computers and fully sick heavy metal, so I don't have much to worry about myself.
Snyder's Razor:
"If a company that wants to manage and index the world's information already filters out content from that information at the request of certain external entities, it is likely it filters content based on internal company ideologies as well."
Why?
It wouldn't profit from doing so. Unlike with China.
Well, if profit is their goal, then they can't be trusted. See Exxon.
Yeah, they're a business and stuff. What are you trying to say?
