Senator Larry Craig is in the news again and the AP wastes no time in reminding us what party he belongs to.
Here are links to two recent stories from the AP. See if you can guess what's missing from the story about Kwame Kilpatrick, mayor of the 11th largest city in the US.
Detroit Mayor: Scandal Hurts City Image
Judge Grills E-Mail-Deleting Texas DA
Look at which story mentions party affiliation. When the accused is a Democrat, the AP omits party affiliation.
These are not isolated examples. How about this story:
Texas Vote Fraud Charges, Were They Democrats? AP Won't Say
Or this one from CNN. But CNN wastes no time in reminding us which party Sen. Craig belongs to.
Let's not forget the NYTimes:
Senate Ethics Committee Admonishes Larry Craig
Document’s Disclosure Adds to Scandal Over Detroit Mayor
Or maybe this one about a Maryland Senator:
Former Md. Sen. Bromwell Sentenced to 7 Years
Bromwell is a Democrat, but you wouldn't know it without a little research.
Liberal Bias? Nah....
Two more examples, both AP feeds and both dated today:
Md. delegate resigns amid FBI probe
Aside from making the subtitle, the AP saw fit to make sure his party affiliation was the second word in the story and first with more than one letter and then they make sure to remind us in the last paragraph. Now, how about this story:
Rep. Briley pleads guilty to hit-and-run charges in DUI arrest
Hmm, no party mention in that one. I wonder why.
The AP's new slogan should be:
Bias is Balance
Parsons and Syme would certainly believe it.
Use perl -i -pwnle 's/liberal/Jewish/g' on a screed about the mainstream media sometime, then read it; it's fun!
As to the issue of scandals, well, Democrats are less likely to be mentioned because they seem to be more psychologically normal than Republicans on average. If you've ever seen Scooter Libby's family-values laden novel (which among other twisted scenarios features bears raping ten-year old Japanese girls), it's plain to see why Shrub was so keen on keeping him out of prison.
Remember, the plural of 'anecdote' is 'data', so a lot of pedo and pervert stories must add up to something.
Parsons and Syme would certainly believe it.
George Orwell was a prominent Socialist, as I have said before.
Since the MSM puts negative stories about Democrats into the memory hole, and when they do report them, they omit the party, it's gets mighty easy (so easy that the Kossacks at the Daily Dross can do it) to find information about Republican scandals and try to prove some sort of preposterous theory.
Besides, if R's are so abnormal and D's are so normal, as you seem to believe, wouldn't the opposite happen - report the odd but not the norm? Generally, that's how news is packaged. We don't see stories about the colleges that weren't shot up by a gunman (notice, btw, you never here 'gunperson', or 'madperson' for that matter, yet another agenda-driven item controlled by the MSM (or maybe Syme has been editing the dictionary again)) or that X planes took off and landed safely today. If R's are all miscreants, why is that news then? News logic reports the unusual and what sells, and ALL scandal sells, which means that the MSM really is biased and only wants to sell the Republican scandals.
I don't get what Orwell being a socialist has to do with anything. Does that mean I can't quote him? I can't say that he was prescient? I can't say that I think he was a smart guy?

Whoa! Grammar!
'Dross' doesn't rhyme with 'Kos', btw.
Democrats aren't well-known for torturing animals, pedophilia, closet homosexuality with meth-addicted hookers, or writing terrible fiction that belongs in the /h/ section of 4chan because they aren't woefully self-repressed. For the same reason that Protestant clergy aren't known for being pederasts because they can marry.
If R's are all miscreants, why is that news then?
They aren't all miscreants; however, a good deal of the more extreme ones are. Pedophilia, for example, is always news because it's considered abnormal and disgusting in our society.
which means that the MSM really is biased and only wants to sell the Republican scandals
Until I have an cause for said liberal bias (can't be money), I will consider it a risible conspiracy theory, and continue to get my news from the Riddermark in any case.

You could, but you'd be taking his words badly out of context.
Using IE? Do what I do. Carry a USB drive with FF on it.

Maybe my context is the right one.

LOL
I'll believe that when I have reason for the 'liberal bias' in the American corporate news media, which are admittedly terrible.
I have no idea why a bunch of mega-corporations would have a liberal bias. It defies reason.

yeah, lol. Looks fine on my old laptop still running Mandrake 9.2 with FF 2.0.0.latest but not on the two Slackware machines or the WinXP machine either.

If you haven't witnessed this firsthand yet, you will. Many large companies continually do things that defy reason and, yet, they somehow manage to stay in business and sometimes even turn a profit. If you haven't realized it yet, the Dilbert comic strip is an actual portrayal of how things really are in many companies.

I'm getting character entities here.

Yeah, they're pretty dumb.
I still don't believe that there is such a thing as the liberal media.
If there were, we would expect to see front-page news stories about (for instance) how people who live near oil drilling sites in Ecuador get cancer from the disgusting polluted water, or how large-scale commercial fishing in Canada depleted stocks and destroyed the livelihoods of all the local fishermen there.
I have to go elsewhere to get these stories because the 'mainstream media' are not interested in anything but poopty celebrity news and articles that maybe only slightly challenge the status quo, in the same way that emos and mallgoths who shop at Hot Topic are different enough to bother their parents, but not different enough to form their own opinions or genuinely stand up against society.
I honestly don't give a damn whether party affiliation is or isn't mentioned in a few stories because if they really wanted to dig up dirt on the neo-liberal movement and mega-corporations, it would be extremely easy, because there are more skeletons in that closet than in the Evil Dead series. Few mainstream US media outlets come even close to doing so.
That reminds me of something I posted about popularity vs. quality earlier...
I agree with some of what you say. Celebrity gossip is not news. What happens on American Idol is not news. Who wore what or who went with whom to the Oscars is not news. What the Senate does, however, is news, but when the Senate seems to spend more time on Roger Clemens or the NE Patriots, that's just a misappropriation of government resources.
As for the lack of coverage of the issues you mentioned, I had always thought that 60 Minutes was the closest to covering those kinds of things. Yes, they will do features on pop culture stuff too, but they will cover some less mainstream issues. But I admit that I don't watch 60 Minutes anymore mostly because I don't watch much TV and, besides, Andy Rooney has just become old and cranky and he's just not wry anymore.
I like what Thoreau said, news is news once and after that, it's gossip.
